An Alternative to Anima
Overview
There are many gods that exist. They each have separate domains of power which they reign over. Most either prefer to keep separate or simply observe the mortal planes of existence. Regardless, the mortal races often worship different gods. In the world of Phedra, there is no distinction between gods and devils. They are all divine entities who have demeanors ranging from wholly benevolent to outright malevolent. As well, any mystical power not available through anima, or including abilities of anima, are available through contracts with gods.
Follower
Anyone who has made a contract with a god is considered a Follower. God's will often give power to their servants who swear to a set of unbreakable vows called 'tenets'. The vows are unique to the individual and god and are set up through a communion between the follower and the god itself. The more power granted, the more numerous or more strict the vows. These vows normally include things such as obedience and loyalty. Followers generally only have a max of three tenets, but some only have one tenet.
Prophet
There are rare cases where a god will select an individual they find fitting to be their Prophet. Prophets are specifically chosen by their god among their followers to carry out their will and spread their faith. Prophets have much more strict tenets but in exchange get a wider range and higher number of powers from their god. A prophet gains much wider range power from the god but has a much larger set of vows. Whatever “class” they are must align with the god's standards and befit of a prophet. Additionally, no matter where they go, they must spread their faith of their god.
